A tough week for Waymos.

First, Waymo vehicles needed a software update to stop trying to drive through flooded roads. Then, a neighborhood in Atlanta was overwhelmed by empty Waymos that caused a traffic jam in a cul-de-sac.

Meanwhile, a driver in Dallas caught a Waymo blazing through a red light at a busy intersection.

The SGDQ 2026 schedule is out.

The event kicks off at 12PM ET on July 5th, and it’s scheduled to end on July 11th.

Is the Waymo-Uber bromance fraying?

Business Insider thinks so, pointing to some recent evidence like Uber’s CTO tweeting about a “scary Waymo moment” and an Uber white paper that emphasizes a hybrid model of human- and robot-powered rides over an AV only model. Driverless Digest’s Harry Campbell is also predicting that Waymo and Uber’s partnership may be running out of steam.

“Penile implant specialist with history of far-right comments led hantavirus presser.”

Sometimes the entire story about Trump and RFK’s attitudes towards public health is right there in the headline. CNN reports:

Before he joined the Trump administration last year, [Dr. Brian] Christine was an Alabama-based urologist who specialized in penile implants […] He’s said the Covid pandemic led to a wider government plot to control people, compared the Biden administration to Nazi Germany and suggested the Covid vaccine had little effect in stopping the pandemic.

Oh, and of course, “he once hosted a YouTube show called ‘Erection Connection,’ a professional YouTube series on erectile dysfunction for fellow urologists.”

Don’t trust a thing on your timeline.

At this point, when you open TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, or any other social media platform, you should assume that every single thing in your feed is paid for in some way. Some of it is clips; most of it is marketing; all of it wants you to think it’s just regular ol’ content. All the views are lies. (Gudea, which shows up a bunch in this NYMag story, is… complicated.) Some of it is real! But at some point the only thing you can do is not trust a bit of it.

You can use KitchenAid’s new wireless thermometers up to 285 feet away.

The Bluetooth range is dependent on what obstacles may lie between you and your grill, but the battery life for KitchenAid’s new $99.99 wireless Smart Thermometer is equally impressive. A full charge gets you 24 hours of use but a five minute quick-charge delivers up to five hours of remotely monitoring meat temps.

Researchers used Mythos to crack macOS.

Researchers at the security firm Calif say they used Anthropic’s cybersecurity AI to create a privilege escalation exploit, the Wall Street Journal reports:

Last September, Apple said it leveraged its hardware and operating system expertise into a technology called Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE), which it described as “the culmination of an unprecedented design and engineering effort, spanning half a decade.” With Claude, building the code that exploited the two MacOS bugs took five days, Calif says.

The Shutterstock/Getty merger passed a pivotal hurdle.

The UK’s competition and markets regulator has cleared the deal to go ahead, on the condition that Shutterstock sells its global editorial business, including Backgrid and Splash. This clears a path to finalize the merger, as it was already granted “unconditional antitrust clearance” by the US DOJ in February.

Intel may already be making iPhone chips.

It was reported last week that Intel and Apple struck a deal for unknown chips. The scale is small though, with TSMC set to retain 90 percent of Apple’s chip supply.

SpaceX takes credit for US carrier harmony.

President and COO Gwynne Shotwell took to X to comment on yesterday’s vague commitment by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to plug the long-standing gaps in rural US coverage, as frustrated residents adopt solutions from Starlink, Amazon, and AST SpaceMobile:

Weeeelllll, I guess @Starlink Mobile is doing something right! It’s David and Goliath (X3) all over again — I’m bettin’ on David :)

Although Shotwell’s SpaceX is hardly the underdog with over 10,000 Starlink satellites in orbit, and the only company with a fleet of proven relaunch vehicles.
